What do you need to know for your course?

Everyone’s welcome – really!

At Jing, we celebrate diversity and inclusivity in all its forms. Whether you’re a total beginner, a passionate hobbyist, or a seasoned therapist, there’s a place for you here.

From those starting their massage journey (see Bodywork Beginnings) to experienced pros expanding their skills with the Jing Method (Foundation, ACMT, BTEC Level 6), our students come from all backgrounds, yoga teachers, physios, sports massage therapists, and more.

Either study online, in Brighton, or both, with friendly support every step of the way. Not sure where to start? Schedule a call with our student advisor, Derek is here to help!

The biggest prerequisite for coming to Jing is a curiosity about massage and bodywork.

The courses are offered in a progressive platform – beginners start with our Open Evening to introduce you to our holistic and deep tissue massage course (Bodywork Beginnings), you won’t need any previous experience. For our more advanced CPD and qualifications you need to have done previous qualifying training to become a massage therapist

Registration: For the first day of many courses, we encourage a split registration. If your surname begins with A-L, please arrive at 9:00 AM, and if it begins with M-Z, please arrive at 9:15 AM. All courses start promptly at 9:30 AM.

A typical course day runs from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with an hour for lunch.

Occasionally, start and finish times may vary, and these variations will be communicated to you via email. Please check your course confirmation emails for any specific time updates

 What to bring:

  • Massage linens: For comfort and hygiene, we recommend you invest in 2 large bath towels (single colour), a fitted sheet for your couch, and a face cradle cover or pillowcase. These are essential for all courses, especially longer ones like Bodywork Beginnings or ACMT.

  • Massage wax: We use wax (not oil!) for better control with advanced techniques. Please choose an unscented, vegan option like Vegan Wax Co or Songbird.
  • Course-specific extras: Some classes (like TMJ or Hot Stone Fusion) have additional kit requirements. Check your confirmation email for full details.
  • Manuals & materials: Your confirmation email includes a link to your course manual—download or print it, or bring a tablet/notebook to take notes.
  • Online content: Some courses include online learning. You’ll get access details in your welcome email—don’t worry, it’s all easy to follow. You sign in via our student portal.
  • Recommended reading: Start your journey with Massage Fusion: The Jing Method for the Treatment of Chronic Pain by our co-founders Rachel & Meghan – available online or through our student shop.

Jing Training

What you need to know about the BTEC level 6 programme?

Jing is committed to a very high teacher to student ratio. On most courses the ratio is 1 teacher to 6 students during the hands-on portion of the classroom schedule.

Our classroom offers the opportunity to meet a diverse community of massage therapists you can learn with and from – with the added bonus of making likeminded friends.

Our dedicated, kind and highly experienced teaching team work seamlessly to ensure every individual is given the highest level of support and encouragement they need to come away buzzing from each course.

Yes! Yes they are.

As the massage industry in the UK is unregulated, CPD points can sometimes be a little confusing! So we contacted all the major associations and asked them what you need to do to get CPD points with each of them. Here is the break down:

The SMA (Sports Massage Association):
1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Keep a record of all the CPD you complete in a word document/spreadsheet. The SMA will the do random audit checks on its members.

The CHP (Complementary Health Professionals):
1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Each time you complete CPD, you need to fill in the CHP’s reflective practice form, and then submit it to them.

The SMTO (Scottish Massage Therapists’ Organisation):
1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Each time you complete CPD, you need to fill in the SMTO’s reflective practice form, and then submit it to them.

The FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists):
Each time you complete CPD, you submit a reflective practice document – for each document you submit (minimum 500 words), you are awarded up to 5 CPD points.

MTI (Massage Training Institute):

The number of hours studied is eligible as part of your 18 hours CPD commitment. Each time you complete CPD, you need to record it in the ‘CPD’ section of the Members Area of the MTI website to submit it to them.

The Jing BTEC Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Clinical & Sports Massage is currently the highest-level massage qualification available in the UK, and is the equivalent to a degree. It is a vocational qualification, which means that the emphasis is on practical hands-on skills rather than academic theory. Jing students come from all walks of life with differing experiences of learning; our diploma is therefore designed to include all and to provide support at an appropriate level for each individual.

The starting point for this level of education is Foundation in Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy.

The full BTEC Level 6 qualification takes 3 years.

Year 1: Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist (ACMT) certificate gives you skills and recognition as an advanced practitioner. This year is mandatory to go on to the final 2 years of the BTEC Level 6, but it is also a stand-alone year of CPD (continuing professional development) training that culminates in an exam and a qualification.

Year 2: Second year of the BTEC Level 6 made up of practical and written assessments and modules.

Year 3: Research project year –  a year for you to really explore what you’re passionate about in massage and to produce a paper that will make a difference!

Learn more about this programme here

You will need to hold a qualification in massage to embark on the ACMT year of the BTEC Level 6. If you are not already a massage therapist you will need to take our prerequisite course – Bodywork Beginnings – or an alternative equivalent.

As our ACMt and BTEC Level 6 certificates are modular, it means that students have plenty of time between modules for study and practice. The course has been structured so that the first part focuses mainly on practical skills, with some theory, whereas the second part focuses more on theory subjects, combined with refining your practical skills.

We therefore recommend that students allow 6-12 hours a week depending on your learning needs for study or practice.

Yes you can!

If you are not ready to commit to the full year or 3 years you can learn online the full techniques of the ACMT in short individual online modules. This includes fantastic teaching from Meg and Rachel – all the techniques, anatomy, musculoskeletal pathologies and full video demo’s and downloads.

Check out our online pain modules. Just search “online”!

If you’re interested in some of the BTEC modules and have completed the ACMT you can gain an insight of the syllabus by joining our Certificate in Advanced Myofascial Release.
